Description:
Master Nepali craftsman created this exquisite Avalokiteshvara statue from Himalayan quartz crystal, detailed with insets of lapis, coral, and turquoise with accents of emerald and garnet. Her garments and the statue’s base are intricately hand-etched.
Avalokiteshvara is a bodhisattva who embodies the compassion of all Buddhas.
According to the Karandavyuha Sutra, the sun and moon are said to be born from Avalokiteshvara’s eyes, Shiva from her brow, Brahma from her shoulders, Narayana from her heart, Sarasvati from her teeth, the winds from her mouth, the earth from her feet, and sky from her stomach.
In Mahayana Buddhism, Avalokiteshvara relates to the six-syllable mantra, “Om Mani Padme Hum.”
On the bottom of the base is also etched a double vajra - a protective symbol that dispels evil, temptation, and deception from the four directions, dispels ignorance and invites wisdom, boosting power.
The detail and craftsmanship displayed in this unique, crystal Avalokiteshvara is absolutely remarkable.
