This exceptional singing bowl is hand-hammered and then etched with Green Tara (the Bodhisattva of enlightened activity) figures and her mantra, “om tare ture tuttare ture swahaa” by a Master Artist. On the bottom of the bowl is etched the Buddhist Eternal Knot (symbolizing the wisdom of the Buddha and the endless cycle of suffering or birth, death and rebirth). Made of 7 metals representing seven planets (Gold: Sun, Silver: Moon, Copper: Venus, Iron: Mars, Tin: Jupiter, Mercury: Mercury, and Lead: Saturn), this creates the mellow, rich tones that enable multiphonic overtones and generates a powerful, long-lasting harmonic hum.

Singing Bowls have been used for millennia and date back to the pre-Buddhist Tibetan Bon culture. Singing bowls are actually a type of bell known as a “standing bell.” The bowls are played either by rubbing a leather mallet around the rim (as one might play a crystal glass with your finger), or by striking the side of the bowl with a felt mallet. The two playing methods produce quite distinctive sounds. Both mallets are provided with this item along with a silk Tibetan cushion.

Although referred to as “Tibetan Singing Bowls,” they are more accurately called Himalayan Bowls, as they are present throughout the Himalayan regions of Tibet, Nepal, and India. Today, singing bowls are used to aid meditation, religious practice, relaxation, and healthcare. They create a range of sounds to restore the normal vibratory frequencies of out-of-harmony parts of the body, mind, and soul. When used in sound healing, singing bowls are sometimes referred to as healing bowls or chakra bowls. In sound healing, or “sound massage,” the bowls are played around and sometimes placed on the body of the receiver of the treatment. The practitioner uses the resonance of the bowls’ harmonic vibrations within the human body for balancing and relaxation. Some sound healers seek to activate or balance the body’s chakras, or energy centers.
