This extraordinary Medicine Buddha is crafted from solid, carved pieces of lapis lazuli set in a body sculpted from copper that is then gold-plated. Buddha’s robes are filigreed with extensive inlay of carved lapis lazuli, coral, and turquoise.

The Medicine Buddha is also known as the Healing Buddha. As the Medicine Buddha’s vow was to help heal all the sick and the injured, he is often called upon to help eliminate sickness. Portrayed with a jar of medicine (carved from Himalayan crystal) in his left hand, the Medicine Buddha’s right hand is resting on his knee in the mudra of blessings, with a stem of a healing plant in between his thumb and forefinger.
